Kids One Mile RouteThe Soldier Kids Marathon is a running/walking program for kids ages 6 to 12 that is designed to build endurance and to encourage an active lifestyle. The program is flexible enough for the more experienced runner as well for as a beginning runner. Under the Soldier Kids Marathon program kids will run the distance of a full marathon (26.2 miles) over a little over three months period of time.
The program begins August 1, 2011 and ends 100 days later on November 8, 2011. Kids can begin the program at any time during the 100-day period. During this 100-day period the kids will run 25.2 miles. The program is designed so that kids can choose to run a quarter mile a day each day over the 100-day period, or run a half a mile or a mile or more over fewer days to complete 25.2 miles. After completing the 25.2 miles a kid will qualify to run the final 1-mile on Friday, November 11, 2011 at the National Infantry Museum at 5:30 pm to complete the full 26.2 mile marathon.
The final 1-mile Fun Run to complete the 26.2 mile marathon will be run at the National Infantry Museum. The 1-mile course at the National Infantry Museum will begin on the Avenue of Flags and run a loop around the parking lot of the National Infantry Museum and return to finish on the Avenue of Flags. The finish line will be the same as the finish line for the full and half marathon race that will be run the next day on Saturday, November 12, 2011.
The Soldier Kids Marathon is not a timed event and there are no official winners. The 1-mile Fun Run at the National Infantry Museum on Friday at 5:30 pm, November 11th, will not be timed. All running by the kids will be on the honor system and will require supervision by their parents or guardians. Each child who completes the Soldier Kids Marathon will receive a t-shirt and finisher’s medal on Friday, November 11, 2011 when the child crosses the finish line of the 1-mile Fun Run.
The 1-mile Fun Run will begin at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, November 11, 2011 at the National Infantry Museum. After completion of the 1-mile Fun Run, the kids and their parents are welcome to go to a pasta dinner being held at the National Infantry Museum in conjunction with the Soldier Marathon. There is a charge for the pasta dinner which will be posted on the Soldier Marathon website.
